The Wines Of Tuscany

October 27th, 2012

4PM-7PM, in store

When it comes to just pure landscape and geographic beauty, you would be hard pressed to find many places that can compete with Tuscany. Home to not only some of the best and most scenic wine regions in the World, it also hosts some of the most historic and "visit-worthy" cities in the World. (Florence, Siena, Pisa, and Luca to name a few).

This fact, combined with its rich history of wine making and global reputation as one of the best regions in the world make it necessary for any wine lover to put Tuscany on their "bucket list". Obviously known mostly for high quality Sangiovese, many Tuscan regions and winemakers are also exploring internation grapes like Cabernet and Merlot. Here are some of our favorites.

We will be tasting:

  • Banfi Chianti Classico -  Ripe red fruits, bright acidity, and that classic dustiness.

  • Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva-    Aging will give this wine a little bit more spice and vanilla flavors.

  • Pratesi Carmignano- Dark berries, vanilla, spice, and some cedar.

  • Farnito Carpineto Cabernet Sauvignon - Rich, dark black fruits with hints of licorice.

Oregon and Washington

November 3rd, 2012

4PM-7PM, in store

With the upcoming elections in this country, we were feeling a little bit partiotic for this particular tasting.  And with so much history around our Presidents and their love of wine, it just made sense.  In fact, many of our Presidents were wine lovers.  Thomas Jefferson was probably the most famous; with his huge collection of First Growth Bordeaux, Sauternes, and Rhone Valley Wines.  James K Polk loved Rose Champagne, Port, and Sauternes.  JFK was a Francophile, and LBJ made sure all wines in the White House were American!

That being said, we wanted to show some great American wines from places outside of California.  Nothing against the great state of California, but we always try and explore different and exciting regions for our patrons.

We will be tasting:

  • Lemelson Theas Selection Pinot Noir (Oregon)- Ripe red fruits, bright acidity, hints of earthiness, and a distinct complexity.

  • Milbrandt Traditions Cabernet Sauvignon (Washington)-  Dark fruits with notes of mocha and chocolate.
  • Acrobat Pinot Gris (Oregon)- Stone fruit, floral notes, and hints of pear round out this fun wine.

  • Pacific Rim Solstice Vineyard Riesling (Washington) - .Green Fruits and Citrus dominate with a hint of minerality.
